What is Semanal?
Every week in 2008, we’re posting videos. 52 videos by the end of the year.Post on your blog, on Seesmic, Facebook, YouTube, whatever, wherever and however. You can do anything you want. As long as it moves.There’s no deadline for joining! It’s the weekliness that’s important, not the start and end point.
Discussion Group and Wiki (please join our group. see what we’re doing)
We hope that people will continue to join throughout the year. You can start and finish your 52 week cycle at any point, or make up for lost weeks by posting more than 1 in other weeks – or just start when you find us and post weekly until the end of 08. Your challenge is yours to decide. The only requirement is a weekly video. We figure once we’ve made it through a year of weekly posts, we won’t want to stop… 
About this blog at Semanal.org and how to use it:
For the first couple of weeks, people have been posting videos in the discussion forum on our Semanal.ning.com group. So what’s this blog for? Well, we need a central site where we can record and archive the thousands of films we’re all going to be making this year. It’ll get harder to watch and find films at Ning as time goes on. And if Ning dies, we lose everything. We also don’t have access to the Ning database, so developers can’t have fun showcasing our work in different widgets.
So instead, we’re going to post and watch videos using comments on this blog. Click on the post for this week’s videos, and leave a comment with a link to your video file AND a link to your original post (so people can go there and comment and subscribe).
You don’t need to worry about embedding it or doing anything fancy. Just post the actual video file’s URL. Because when people click on the link to your video file, it will play in a magic pop-up box! Like this :)
You can even create comments on comments – sub-threads about individual videos. You can also click the checkbox at the bottom to receive all new comments/videos by email – and of course you can subscribe to comments by RSS feed.

How we made this site:
We are using wordpress to make this group video site. We are using a number of plugins to create a group space. Some of it is documented on the wiki, but we will post details once we get it all in good shape. Semanal is also an experiment for us video creators to make blogs be more visual so our work looks better.
