Local concert event the night before Super Bowl XLII in Glendale, AZ.

Here’s a piece that I did a while ago, but I just made it part of my all time fav’s - so I thought you all might enjoy it. Don’t take it too seriously, unless of course you want to.

It has been a while since I posted. It was unintentional. I think I wondered into that place that Rupert was in a few months ago.

Here is what I did. I took a camera to downtown Los Angeles. I wanted to see what was really around me. I lost a lot of time trying to edit the different pieces together. I decided to upload each one as a plain vanilla video. This is a construction project happening on Spring Street. Do you remember as a kid just staring as a large piece of concrete was lifted into the sky?

2008-02-25 09:21:46

i love when people take their camera outside and just see what’s going on.

2008-02-25 01:49:24

What do you worry about? My friends and I worry a lot about the future. I also worry about the test that I blew off studying for to make this video. Music: Bobhellbringer “You Need” http://www.ccmixter.org

Very nice. I especially enjoyed the last little hunk. It’s always good to stick around during the credits.

My blog with my semanal videos got hacked last week. Milt let me know this had happend, as I had not found out myself. But this was peanuts compared with the news later that day that my friend Arno had passed away. His funeral was very, very impressive. Hardly ever seen so many people together. This is my personal salut with one of the many special types of music and scenery he loved. And one of the memories i’d like to share sometime this year with his wife and his kids.

2008-02-26 07:51:22

Pretty sad, that one. But thanks for sharing it. Was Arno a video artist? Or just a good friend?
M.

A very good friend who also was a kind of Mentor when I was into photography and started my education in graphic design. He also helped me a lot when I was writing for magazines to get a chance to get published, as well as a journalist, a photographer and as a designer as well.

Just a little something from my life..

2008-02-26 07:53:59

I love that effect - how did you do that, if I might ask? Is that an effect that’s in a certain program? - Well, actually - are those 2 effects? And Happy Birthday!
M.

2008-02-26 15:59:59

It’s one of the effects I have in Sony Vegas, it’s just a mask overlay then I put 2 seperate clips into 2 seperate timelines and inverted the “mask” which was at the top video timeline…the pencil sketch effect is just one of the effects I have, well actually it’s a plug in from Nublue? or is it Newblue…? not sure off the top of my head….I’m glad you like it though

I really love Vegas - glad to see there’s another Vegas user out there. I’ll check out the newblue thing.

Short video of the eclipse from last week. A little time-lapse action, too.

Been enjoying the old-fashioned method these days…

I’m soooo hungry!

2008-02-27 03:59:24

Ah, the popcorn game. I did one of these back in September 2005.

Wow! Nice house. Interesting idea to put into practice some things you have learned. I sure hope they have they the Internet there. Otherwise you might go insane!

2008-02-27 07:45:19

Wow that’s so cool. So you guys are going to be farmers! I’ll send you a house warming…something. Virginia is so pretty, and you can cover the election easily from there.

Anyway, in honor of your impending move, I thought I would post a how-to video to show you how to really do green building. This is a completely green - greenhouse - really I mean it’s green!

Another run to Boston.

The original plan was for a run to Portsmouth, enjoy the warmth of the day by walking around the city close to home. BUT I got a call from a friend asking if we were going to make a run to the city. Ryan overhead enough of the conversation to want to change our plans. Turns out that our friend never did show, but we had a blast anyway.

We ran down, took the train, and hit the Museum of Science. That place never gets old.

You should listen to this audio track. My friend Hens (37hz.net) made it just for this movie! :)

Reciprocity is defined as a sense of mutual obligation people may feel toward each other. One way that anthropologists try to understand different social relationships is to examine the kinds of reciprocity that individuals or members of social groups have toward one another. Among video bloggers, do you feel a sense of reciprocity to watch and comment on their videos? Why or why not?

I just finished writing my first book! Whew. This video shows the printed out manuscript that I have to mail to my editor. Lots of pages, lots of words. 39,704 words, to be exact (yes, I had to send the publisher a word count).

2008-02-28 14:20:09

Congrats!

There’s a Snow Man sitting next to me making love to his tonic and gin.

For the first time in my posts for the Semanal project, a traditional piece-to-camera videoblog. In this case, it’s about my Nisis DV H-10 flash-memory camera

2008-03-02 11:37:38

That little camera looks pretty cool. What does it cost? Where do you get it? I love my Xacti - for the same reasons, but this is also a pretty cool thing.
Milt

2008-03-03 04:11:16

They are hard to get now, unfortunately. My first one cost me about £50 in 2005 (about $70 US at the time). The one I just bought on eBay cost £25 + £5 postage which, strangely, also works out about $70 now :)

It’s not a particularly new design, so it has plenty of quirks - it’s still photo performance is not very good, it gives best video performance when recording at 320 x 240, and it records in ASF format, which not all editing software supports.

I just love the size and shape, though. It sits so comfortably in my hand, particularly when recording myself.

riding e-bikes—Charging time: 8 to 10 hours—Maximum loading: 120kg–Maximum speed: 45kph–Distance per charge: 60 to 80km–made in China of course …helmets are not compulsory for e-bikers but for motorbikers–e-bikes are meant to be riden by one person so do not carry anyone or you will get a fine by the police or traffic wardens.

I’ve worked at Griffith for almost a year now and the view never gets old.

Very Nice. Is the observatory actually IN LA or just close to it? I’ve always thought that observatories were generally located a distance away from lights. Anyway - it’s a pretty impressive sight, and building too.

Drifting (It’s best viewed full size.)
I shot this while sitting in a sandwich shop for lunch. There’s a lot of action and at the same time a lot of nothing going on.

My friends and I recently converged in Hawaii for a reunion of sorts, and it was truly amazing. This is a video of the five of us sitting in a shark cage off the north shore of Oahu.

What an experience. What’s missing from this raw footage is me puking off the deck afterwards — above a circling shark that seems to be waiting for chunks like a dog for scraps. All he got was ingested seawater, though, which — on top of hyperventilation, lack of sleep, and crazy waves that almost made our tour guides call the whole thing off — is what I blame for the expulsion.

More media from this trip to come. I converted/compressed this vid down to about 80MB, so depending on your connection you might have a better viewing experience downloading it first by right-clicking the Quicktime link.

Semanal08 : W9 - Southern California Wildfires from adam mercado on Vimeo.

Part Two : The Flames That Burned The County

I shot this footage back in the fall of 2007 when the southland was engulfed in flames. The fires destroyed many homes in San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles County. The fires were kicked up by the usual late year santana winds that blow in from the south, raising tempratures, felling trees and downing power lines.

By the time the fires had burned out more than 2 weeks after they started, half a million acres had burned, 1500 homes lost, and 9 people died.

The two plus weeks after the storm that ignited the fires were tense and drama filled as everyone tuned into the news of firefighters battling endless blazes all over the southland. Containment was seemingly impossible and the fires spread and merged, causing mass evacuations. Everywhere to went you were followed by thick acrid smoke. Ash was over everything. It hurt to breath outside. And it was hot, and the winds did not rest making matters even even worse.

A short experimental associative-voodle by moi & b.k. capturing despair of abandoned hope and showing an uneasy student work on Cuba in Oslo, Norway - 2008.02.17. Work commissioned by the norwegian jazz-musician Nils Petter Molvær who also provided the soundscape for this video; ‘torn’ from the album ‘re-vision’ (2008).
