You say it’s your birthday? It was our birthday too. Yep a pile of Aging Aquarians – having a good time. I was late for the parade – yes there really was a parade. But after that, it was time to do some music.

2008-02-11 12:39:16

Congrats! Just saw your video-interview with Ryanne! Good stuff!

2008-02-11 16:13:25

Ok, I think I have got the fast start fixed, hope you all enjoy this video, inspired in part by Jay Dedman, I call it “Moments”

This week I combined some orphaned video with orphaned audio. Here’s what came out.

2008-02-12 01:00:48

hey, what a nice video! great that the “orphans” found a home. best, sam

2008-02-12 08:53:56

That was really nice. I just love people talking – can’t help myself.

2008-02-17 03:31:01

A perfect use of audio. Thinkin’ outside the box, yo.

2008-02-17 20:58:02

verrrrrry lovely. those tacos look delicious!!!!!

2008-02-12 00:58:39

hector! beautiful piece… great framing, sunset and movements. and yes: it is pepa that makes us all more aware ot the playful nature of dogs. best, sam

2008-02-15 07:19:47

Very nice. It inspired me. I’m going down to shot a kids powwow today, and you showed me an interesting approach. Actually this week I’ve seen lots of interesting approaches to shooting. I love the European approach. It allows you to create what you want – to see what you want. I found myself watching the swimmers, and noticing the playful nature of humans.

2008-02-16 23:16:54

that´s interesting, “the european approach”. :)

Experiencing museums, old buildings and classic interiors can be quite interesting and not so soporific after all. Thanks to Ryanne for the inspiration and challenge from her fun Bruges video from week 6.
As always, supplementary didactic text and other links at patalab.
Cheers,Sam

I absolutely love museum videos. This was a superb video, nice music overlaying with the sound from the footsteps. How does it feel to take footage of people in a public space like this? That woman in conversation with the statue looking back, at you, sceptical – how did you react? Did you say something? Or did you pretend that What would you do if they notice it?. “Will she notice it?” Great, great.

I love Carlsberg Ny Glyptotek – I havent been there in a few months though. Time to go again!

Your piece from Glyptoteket was very different from my own piece from DAC from september – where you focused on the clothes and actions of others, I made a collage of my own self, activities, surroundings.

Thanks for sharing this, Sam!

Maybe we should have a museumwalking session in Copenhagen?

No matter that carnival itsn’t only a catalan tradition, here they put so many interesting on it. this video shows the event where 6000 “botifarras d’ou” (a typical dish) were gave to the people to celebrate the began of the carnival times.

One of the things I participated in during my visit to Tokyo was Xacti’s Tokyo Hunt, which was a day of running around taking video with local videobloggers. You can see Tajee’s video of some of our day here. (My video of eating Fugu The Poison Fish is coming up.)

Clips collected over the past two months that were either extra clips or moments captured and never posted. Inspired by Jay Dedman’s MomentShowing.net, I hope to continue this throughout the year.

this is a test post to see if plugging in a vimeo link in the “URL to Video File” spot will bring in the video. You can delete the post either way, but if you could just email me the results. Thanks.

How can you not smile while watching this? :-) Great video.

2008-02-16 00:55:57

yes, indeed: intense and so very contagious warm, fun, and genuine heartfelt laughter…
that should prove again that it can be very entertaining to visit old buildings and museums. :-)

This week an edit of some raw DV recorded in August 2006.

2008-02-16 09:48:33

I haven’t felt like videoing this week but here’s a quick one I took the week before to show my (juggler) friends. this is in Ben Yehuda mall in Jerusalem centre.

I recorded a video yesterday in the Old City as a sound walk – there’s video also but it’s not watchable

Busy week, not much video. But to stay in the game, here’s a vacuuming lumiere.

Crispy Duck, Pineapple Rice, and Home Made Applesauce.

We finally got the dinner done, and WOW was it yummy. Very easy to make as well, and the boys.. They just ate it all up.

We pick up these little “duck half” at BJ’s Wholesale Club and I just tossed that in the toaster oven for about half an hour at 350 then bumped it up to 450 for another ten minutes or so to ensure the “Crispy” part.

The Pineapple Rice was insanely easy… Simple white rice then added some cold pineapple chunks.

And as for the applesauce well we used our recipe the same one that was found in our earlier video.

And we paired dinner off with a nice Cranberry Pomegranate juice. And in wine glasses no less. It was a very fancy and sophisticated dinner and I think that was part of the reason why the boys ate their dinner so well. It was just well. Good all around.

2008-02-21 00:43:26

dude your kids are great. Is he really drinking wine, or is that Ribenna (berry juice). Also, i’m now really hungry…

2008-02-16 21:02:56

Look how insane LA looks at night as you fly into the city.
We built it piece by piece.

2008-02-16 21:15:59

Jay-
I’m not sure were I’m supposed to comment…I checked momentshowing.net and this wasn’t there. At anyrate I really enjoyed this. I remember being amazed when I flew into LAX the first time because the lights just seemed to go on forever. Your video did a great job capturing that and brought back some great memories. Thanks!

Kerry

2008-02-17 00:22:00

yes: momentshowing in the best sense of the term. so simple, so “quotidian”, yet absolutely magic. words cannot describe the fabulous sensation of flying, angel-like above the world. the soundtrack is marvellous. thanks for sharing.

hey sam, “quotidian” is a great concept, as momentshowing.

2008-02-21 00:42:14

yeah, loved it. caught somewhere between BladeRunner and Tron. I love the moment when flying into a city where everything very quickly goes from ever-so-small to very big, in such a short time we fall hundreds of feet to land safely….the perspactive shift always intrigues me and this captured that perfectly

2008-02-17 00:32:04

Not much time to video this week. Here’s a Lumiere to stay in the game.

2008-02-17 04:28:35

Another full frontal nudity WARNING.

As with many artists, I work with the human form.

There were two versions of the audio poem “Dark Cities”. This is the second. Better technically, put for performance, I prefer V. 1.0.

It features the voices of poets Bruce Weber and Stacie M. Kiner. The 3 of us wrote the poem together, and worked for years to bring it into various media.

In order to get the poem out into the digital realm, it needed images. The images are from behind the scenes of making the 16mm version. The images needed more, too. Glad they found one another in this piece.

Must find the VHS version we recorded in West Palm Beach with Stacie as Mrs. H and Lenny DellaRocca as Mr. H.

It’s around here somewhere.

This is a Semanal08-only release.

2008-02-21 00:52:07

nice one Jan, and kind of inspiring. I used to write a lot of poetry many years ago. I used them as a base for song lyrics, and left them all at a rehersal studio once and lost years of writing just like that. Have not written more than 2-3 pages since, maybe 15 years ago. I was a lot unhappier then so it was easy (pain is art…) Think I’ll try to start again…..thanks

Family day. Need a holiday in February. Canada rocks. i’m so moving there.

D’ya think The Leafs will trade Sundin?

2008-02-17 14:32:48

good god, paris is beautiful. the only thing keeping me from wanting to move there is that i can’t speak a lick of french. daniel liss was recently there as was raymond. check out their amazing videos too. our xacti broke right before we hit paris, so we were shooting blind, no LCD screen to guide us. hence some crookedness. i think we did pretty well considering!

people you might know in this video: loiez, jefferey, raymond.

2008-02-18 02:33:48

hey i like the crookedness – perhaps one week we can all video blind?

2008-02-21 01:05:06

oh I’m so jealous. I love Paris. love love love love Paris. Best city in the world, would move there in a heartbeat. I noticed no wonkiness. I was either so engrossed in the images, or I have a whisky buzz going, either way it looked great :)

The Digital Dojo is a very interesting place in which video blogging events are held to help people understand the many aspects of making and distributing video. One I attended was one of the “Super Happy Vlog House” events, held at various places in the United States. Are there SHVH events elsewhere in the world? I always enjoy going and learning about technical aspects of video making. I think the Dojo is great and Markus and Alicia are always so warm and welcoming to video bloggers of all levels. It is a beautiful place that has a peaceful atmosphere. Please note that this is a research site and that comments posted to the site may be used in research. David Ray Griffin is a co-director of the Center for Process Studies and one of the foremost contemporary exponents of process theology. He’s also a leading proponent of theories questioning the Bush Administration’s account of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

I was invited to a lecture of his February 10 in San Diego that mainly concentrated on subjects within his new book, Debunking 9/11 Debunking, which he explained is largely a response to an article by Popular Mechanics its authors claim dispel the primary tenets of the 9/11 Truth Movement.

Semanal08: W8 – A Night At The Races
It was a balmy night in western Arizona. The family headed out to the Mohave Valley Raceway near Bullhead City for a night of dirt track racing. Other than some speedway motorcycle racing back in England, I have never witnessed dirt track racing. My motor sports experiences have been purely tarmac-based. Until this night.

The night was a series of heats and a final of lower class vehicles, and the showcase class – Modifieds. If I remember correctly, my father-in-law was telling me these monsters run on alchohol, which makes them the bad-ass mo-fo’s of the paddock. Watching these loud and ugly Mad Max machines round the 1/3 mile oval almost entirely sideways was a sight to behold. Amazing control, driving on the ragged edge. And did I mention they were loud.
