I am very proud of this video, go to my post for more information

Heath! Great Vid!!!,but you should warn people that This file is 80 MB!

2008-02-04 06:35:23

yea, I am sorry about that, I should have, part of the problem is that I am having problems with the fast start option, which I am working on. But sometimes I don’t think about the file size as much as i should. thanks for the reminder

the video wont play till it’s all the way downloaded. It looks like it’s quicktime, so just turn on the “quickstart” option when compressing. (im still waiting to download to watch. i know you worked hard on it)

Great work you’re doing, Heath. Interested in being part of a grassroots-grown documentary on the subject? Let’s talk :)

2008-02-04 07:26:28

Here’s (sort of) a “no beginning, no ending” video. Why do I need this? What is it? Did I drink it? Did it make me feel better? You decide.

2008-02-04 08:44:13

This is a kind of response to Heath’s video about how violence has affected my life. I say ‘kind of’ because I’ve not been able to download it here and will navigate away from this page to see it.

It’s made me an artist.

It’s given me a lifetime of fodder.

2008-02-05 01:55:55

I like this one. Its artistic and a good story together!

2008-02-06 05:26:54

Very strong stuff, Jan. The subject-matter is always interesting, a bit scary, and can lead to a lot of – yes – fodder. Violence done to children is a topic that is crucial, both for the individuals touched by it, but also of more general importance for the society.

I love this video! I look forward to seeing more of the stuff you made years ago :)

2008-02-07 18:18:35

powerful stuff jan
thanks for sharing!

A short docu-voodle for week 6, still labelled week 5…
As always: didactic pataphysical text and other links at the original post.
Cheers, Sam

2008-02-04 18:01:01

today i pondered bob dylan, lumiere and super tuesday. then i came home and made this with my mom. :)

i was really pumped about the week’s theme of posting in the style of another vlogger, but this video couldn’t wait. but i AM posting in the style of DA pennebaker and the lumiere brothers, so that counts right?

2008-02-07 19:39:00

Clearly your mother is awesome.

2008-02-04 22:02:32

Sort of in response to CD’s challenge in week five to produce some light art (http://blip.tv/file/632641) and Michael Aivaliotis post (http://michael.aivaliotis.com/2008/01/26/light-painting-experiment-with-the-kids/#respond). Still trying to figure out some in camera ways to animate light without using stop motion. Experimenting is always fun tho.

2008-02-04 23:53:41

My friend Vijay shows us the process of electro-plating metal :)

2008-02-05 01:49:20

Really instructional this one. A friend of mine worked in a lab and could do all of this sort of tricks too. Chemistry is Always Amazing.

2008-02-13 22:26:13

Thanks for the comment Huub! I need to put a lanyard on my camera because I was afraid to get too close for fear of dropping it in the solution!
I really enjoy your vlog!

My friend, Maria, made a video about this here: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10470345773
She lives in Belgium, but was excited to take part online with other Colombians around the world.

hey jan !
this one is amazing.
very compelling. superb music.
very nice interpolation/ overlay of images.
yet, each of them, taken alone, where quiet and serene.

btw: images are story. no need to invent.
an image says more than 1000 words and 10 stories.
thanks.
cheers, sam

thousands of colombian people through the world go out the last monday to the streets to say “no more FARC” (Guerrilla)… it was a very emotional event and i took my cam and put all the feelings on the tape.

2008-02-06 23:39:09

i saw protesters in Barcelona on Monday saying “no more FARC”.

hector! hahha i loved when the older man came into the frame to give them a hug.

2008-02-07 01:08:25

a beautifull piece! such a kind and friendly ending after quite a fight.
and great framing too.
best , sam

jerusalem snow

it snowed in Jerusalem for a couple of days. the first day many of the roads were closed. the stores close – the city shuts down. my workplace was closed for both days (so a long weekend for some!). the second day by mid morning the sun was out and sky was blue.

snow in the middle east! lots of fun!

the music is “Snow” by Severed Heads off the Gigapus album

you get to live everywhere cool. (and get paid!)

2008-02-11 12:01:03

thanks, yes I’ve been very lucky in this way for past few years :)
but to be honest, one of my close friends died late last week so I’m thinking right now I’d rather be back home in brisbane with my friends than living in these cool places.

Here is one of the videos we made during our Super Tuesday coverage for The Uptake. This one takes place outside City Hall in San Francisco, where we met a man with a very large graph and pie chart, banging his hippie drum. Of course we had to talk to him!

Jackson West and I had a great time on Super Tuesday. We went to both Ron Paul’s and Hillary Clinton’s parties as well as did some exit polls at City Hall; sometimes we went live with some interviews. A great experience, and it will be interesting to see how these technologies change the way we give and receive information. Could be very powerful, or could just be more noise– how they are used will decide that.

Please leave any comments you might have on my videoblog.

On another note: I finally caught up with Semanal! Let’s see how long that’ll last:)

2008-02-06 20:18:31

This is a remix of my vlog from the voting booth – one of my students made it. I haven’t been able to contribute much to Semanal so far, but this has to count. :D

2008-02-06 20:23:21

Oh yeah, I launched a new vlog this week, too.

“don’t have large breasts” – boobs? Be a Strong woman – proud – and don’t fall for the derogatory male dominated language of degradation.

Having said that, I can’t wait to see how the year goes.

Just started a farm resource blog for farmers who need to know more. Hoping this site will help.

2008-02-07 08:37:46

awesome awesome awesome. Just post little short videos like this each week. over time, it’ll become a real resource. I know ryan and I will use it for our garden work.

2008-02-07 12:26:49

OK, so I fell off the Semanal wagon for a bit but here I’m back. I’ll probably even post makeup videos for the last few weeks. But here’s this weeks: the Tom Cruise Scientology video goes through the sensationcntrs.1 (http://www.snstncntnrs.org/) machine.

2008-02-14 01:32:40

the XML file created those cuts? Interesting. Pretty cool effect. Tom never made so much sense…

bruges is an insanely old city in belgium. therefore lots of tourists, including us, go there. it was really beautiful, but also depressingly lonely. this side trip really made me realize that traveling to any city is really only cool if you know people and are doing cool things. i’m a terrible tourist, all i want to do is either sleep or work. see old buildings and museums? nah!

2008-02-07 17:52:39

haha. the best video about bruges i´ve ever seen. looks like a really quiet place, ya.
hey, jay have to sleep more.

Back in the 60’s, Dr. Rita Smilkstein found herself in a situation where she needed to take a job as a substitute teacher. And as we all know the substitute is on the bottom of the academic heap. What she didn’t know was that this would be the beginning of a journey that she’s been traveling ever since. Through her career as a teacher, Rita discovered that we are all natural born learners and that when given the opportunity, everybody can learn using the Natural Human Learning Process. In fact she discovered that in reality, NHLP was something that we all do everyday in our regular lives. The only place where it seems to be missing is – in school. This is the first of many pieces that I’ll be sharing showing you how the Natural Human Learning Process (NHLP) works, and how it could be the future of education in America.

a fine lumiere! beautiful moment of blue on the shirt when the palm is activated, the arrival of the spoon on the plate, the lemon in its glass cup (?), the cork at the bottom of the frame… and also: the wine seems to be good. cheers, sam

2008-02-10 20:23:09

Thanks Sam. I also like how the light shines through the wine onto my coworker’s hand.

Thursday Morning and MORE SNOW!!

We had a two our delay which was enough time for me to wake up nice and slow. Then I went out and did some snowblowing. It’s amazing how an extra two hours in the morning can make for a much more enjoyable day.

But this is a fun video showing the snow clean up! Snowblowing can be LOTS of fun!!!

Eventually, here is my week 6.

Semanal Games tags: styleof mymusic nowords

I borrowed styles from two videobloggers – can anyone guess who?

2008-02-10 18:25:10

A-hem. I’ve jumped ahead of myself. I’ve missed week 4 + 5 and am posting week six here now for sanity’s sake, with the proviso that at some point I’ll place something in the missing weeks before the year’s up. Promises, promises.

So, taking a deep breath, I feel all up to date now. [Walks off into sunset, humming a tune...]

When does week 7 Start?

2008-02-11 05:29:09

Any time you want! Some go by the calendar, others just like to run Monday-Sunday. Some go back and fill in later.

If you have a week 7 video ready, why not create a Week 7 thread? (or does it need someone with special permissions?)

Tijuana is never quiet. The city’s soundtrack of bustling traffic and barking dogs syncopates with the surrounding beats of banda and hip hop. Bright blue, green and orange homes punctuate a sea of gray cinder block…

what a beautiful video again. thanks.

I really am loving your videos Nathan. First because it shows me a part of the world I’d never see. Also, because you have an eye for detail and great timing.

Semanal08 : W6 – A Geek In The Making
It was to my great joy, upon returning home from work some weeks ago, The Sprite had not only asked for some computer time, he had managed to power the iBook up, find his Nemo game in the Dock and start playing. Brought a tear to my eye, made me so proud. Unfortunately the radiation or something got to him after a while and caused a freak out of Sean Penn proportions.

love it. reminds me so much of my boy, he’s 3 and all he wants to do is smash into things and smash things up. Cant wait until he figures out to MAKE pictures with the camera and not just look at them. being a parent has made me totally sappy, just get a kick out of watching kids/toddlers do their innocent oblivious fun…

backwards posting a short experimental docu-voodle by moi capturing particular moments of reiterative but not redundant duration happening on the way in and out of one of Japans most known places of possible providers for direct intuitiv insights.
See about four minutes of a total of 2 hours of footage (on the same issue) taken by moi and bk at the Ryoan-ji temple in Kyoto, Japan – 2008.03.11, and enjoy the zen-like sound-coulisse ‘catch and release’ (excerpt) by ccmixter artemisstrong.
